Shadowreavers are gaunt, emaciated creatures,
shrouded in ancient rags or folds of flesh torn from their defeated
foes. Their faces are hidden, as the shadowreaver is all too aware of
its horrible countenance, and attempts to conceal its awful visage.
Blood red eyes glow dimly from its shadowed face, speaking to its
unending hatred for all life.
Though shadowreavers lack inherent magical ability
beyond that gained by most Abyssals, they can siphon such ability from
their opponents, and simply pluck a prepared spell from the mind and
soul of such an opponent. Worse, they can turn the destructive force
back upon the opponent’s allies, or the opponent himself, with terrible
effect. When taking advantage of this ability, shadowreavers invariably
select the most destructive spells possible, and sow incredible havoc
amongst enemy ranks.
Combat
Shadowreavers are greater Abyssals usually
encountered in command of a force of other Abyssals. Most often, these
other Abyssals are nightclaws and skincrawlers, as these creatures share
the shadowreaver’s incorporeal nature, and so can follow the fell being
anywhere. Even when accompanied by other Abyssals, however,
shadowreavers relish the chance to engage spellcasters in melee combat,
as they are able to siphon some of the magical might of such opponents
into themselves.
Abyssal: Shadowreavers are greater Abyssals,
and gain the usual benefits of the Abyssal subtype.
Incorporeal (Su): Shadowreavers are
incorporeal creatures, and can only be harmed by other incorporeal
creatures, +1 or better magic weapons, and spells, spell-like abilities,
or supernatural abilities. Even when struck by spells or magic weapons,
it has a 50% chance to ignore any damage from a corporeal source (except
for force effects, such as magic missile, or attacks made with ghost
touch weapons).
In this state, a shadowreaver can pass through
solid objects at will, but not force effects. Its movements are totally
silent, and therefore it cannot be heard with a Listen check. Its
attacks ignore Armor Class bonuses granted by armor and shields, though
deflection bonuses and force effects (such as mage armor) function
normally.
Spell Drain (Su): When the shadowreaver hits
a spellcaster with its touch attack, it may select one spell prepared by
the victim of any spell level less than or equal to the damage roll. The
opponent then makes a DC 20 Will save, or the selected spell is lost.
Thereafter, for the following hour, the shadowreaver may cast the spell
as if he himself had prepared it. Saves against such spells are made
against a DC of 14 + the spell’s level. The save DC is Charisma-based.
